Anschließend folgten zwei Jahre Unterricht am Conservatoire National et Superieur in Paris bei Olivier Messiaen und Pierre Schaeffer sowie Kurse bei Karlheinz Stockhausen und Luciano Berio ( Komposition, Elektroakustik, Computer-Musik ) . 1970 und 1971 war er als Korrepetitor bei den Salzburger Festspielen tätig.
Bei Radio France und dem ORF war er 1973 / 74 freier Mitarbeiter .
Seit Herbst 1973 war Ager zuerst als Assistent an der Lehrkanzel für Musiktheorie tätig.
