Das ADR teilt Gefahrgutfahrzeuge je nach Verwendungszweck in Fahrzeugtypen bzw. Beförderungseinheiten ein.
Diese müssen je nach zu transportierendem Gefahrgut unterschiedlichen Anforderungen genügen (siehe ADR 2013, Anlage A, Kapitel 3.2, Tabelle A).
Im ADR 2013, Anlage B, Kapitel 9.1, Unterabschnitt 9.1.1.2 sind die einzelnen Fahrzeugtypen beschrieben.
