Viele gemeinsame Herausforderungen und Entwicklungsprobleme müssen deshalb durch eine verantwortungsvolle internationale Abstimmung der Raumplanungs-, Verkehrs-, Energie- und Tourismuspolitik sowie weiterer Maßnahmen bewältigt werden.
Deshalb beschlossen die Minister der Alpenstaaten bei ihrer ersten Konferenz vom 9. bis 11. Oktober 1989, ein Abkommen zum Schutz und zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung der Alpen auszuarbeiten.
