He is a co-founder and Chairperson of OFFIS - Institut für Informatik ( Institute for Informatics ), and sits on the advisory board of various research institutes, as well as being a member of the advisory boards of several companies.
Among other distinctions, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the TU ( University of Applied Sciences ) Braunschweig in 2007.
