Bevor er sich der Schriftgestaltung widmete war Kegler Buchbinder, Designer, Doktorand und Künstler auf der Suche nach einem respektablen und einträglichen Leben als Kunsthandwerker.
In jüngerer Zeit initiierte er das gemeinnützige Book Arts Center in Buffalo und wandte sich neben seiner Forschung im Bereich digitale Fonts bei P22 dem Handsatz und Druck von Metall- und Holzlettern zu.

Mr. Kegler has recently started a non-profit Book Arts Center in Buffalo and has returned to an active involvement in hand setting and printing metal and wood type as a concurrent career with digital font research at P22.
