Der Obus-Verkehr auf der Linie Nordend-Westend wurde ab Oktober 1953 mit der Inbetriebnahme des Obus Nr. 9II vom DDR-Typ LOWA W 602a und eines Anhängers vom DDR-Typ LOWA W 700 von sonntags auf die gesamte Woche ausgedehnt.
Es wurde das rot-weiße Zielschild eingeführt, welches bis heute die Linie nach Nordend kennzeichnet.
Die 3,2 km lange Obus-Strecke nach Nordend zweigte an der Friedrich-Ebert-Straße ab.
