This is the state certification of quality (DOC) given to Italian wines with particular characteristics that have been verified, such as provenance from defined areas of production, derivation from particular grape varieties and soils, the ratio between the amount of grapes used and the quantity of wine produced, the methods of production. The certification DOCG (Denominazione di origine controllata e garantita), which involves even stricter checks, has been introduced for DOC wines that are particularly famous for their special qualities.
