Alfons Voit absolvierte von 1977-1983 ein Studium Lehramt für Gymnasien an der TU und Universität München mit anschließendem Referendariat bis 1985.
Seit Oktober 1985 war er in der Bundesanstalt für Arbeit tätig.Zuerst als Arbeitsvermittler, dann als Arbeitsberater.
Mit der Einführung des SGBII war er ab Januar 2005 als Teamleiter des Vermittlungsbereiches einer ARGE tätig.

He worked at the Federal Employment Agency from October 1985 onwards, first as a job placement officer then as a job counsellor.
When SGB-II was introduced in January 2005 he acted as the team leader for the placement department of an ARGE ( joint agency ).
