Uwe Ochsenknecht spielte in Schtonk! den Fälscher, der nun Knobel hieß, Götz George den Skandalreporter Willié, selbst Harald Juhnke war mit von der Partie sowie die unvermeidliche Veronica Ferres.
Als bester nicht-englischer Film wurde Schtonk! für den Oscar nominiert.
