Auf vielen der ursprünglichen Stoffteile stand wegen der Stigmatisierung der Krankheit nur ein Vorname.
Während einzelne Teile immer noch jedes Jahr in Schulen, Kirchen und Firmen ausgestellt werden, ist der Quilt seit dem 11. Oktober 1996 auf der Washington Mall in Washington DC nicht mehr in seiner Gesamtheit gezeigt worden.
