Der Gong steht für die Welt der Menschen, das Tamtam mit seinen vieldeutigen Harmonien für den Kosmos, der die humane Sphäre übersteigt.
Das Akkordeon wiederum, erstmals zu hören in dem Zwischenspiel, das dem Solschenizyn-Satz vorausgeht, erinnert an die Gulag-Gefangenen, denen bestenfalls nur dieses eine Instrument zur Verfügung stand.
