In dieser vor Tatkraft strotzenden Darstellung standen die beiden Skulpturen in einer Reihe mit Statuen von Göttern und Helden auf der Agora in Athen, um die attischen Bürger an die schwer erkämpfte Demokratie zu erinnern.
